AN ESSENTIAL NEEDS CHARITY

BARRINGTON CHILDREN’S CHARITIES works to meet essential needs for children in the Barrington School District 220 area. We focus on providing food, dental care, eye care and mental health services to children whose families cannot afford to meet these essential needs.

OUR PROGRAMS

FEEDING THE FOOD-INSECURE

While the daily school lunch program feeds children during the school week, weekends are not covered. Our important P.O.P. (Packs of Plenty) program provides a pack full of nutritious food for children to consume over the weekend. Each week 20-30 volunteers sort, package and create 700 packs of food for the more than 700 children who participate in the program.

IMPROVING ORAL HEALTH

Proper dental care is out of reach for many children living in lower income households. We partner with Barrington School District 220 and Smile Programs, the Mobile Dentists in Illinois, part of Smile America Partners, to provide dental care including dental exams, cleanings, sealants, oral health instruction as well as x-rays and restorative care for the children.

PROVIDING EYE GLASSES

Vision correction offers children greater opportunity to fulfill their potential. For the school-age child, accurate vision has been shown to be associated with academic performance. We sponsor the “Lens for Learning Eyeglass Program” which provides eyeglasses and/or frames for students in District 220 that are not qualified to receive them through other community resources.

DELIVERING MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT SERVICES

For children of lower income families, mental health care and support can be limited or unavailable. Since 2012, BARRINGTON CHILDREN’S CHARITIES has fully funded the Alexian Brothers School-Based Mental Health Program in the District 220 high school and middle schools, committed to helping them have access to quality counseling and care for improved mental health.
